Old growth forests, vast sandy beaches, world-class waves, Tofino has it all. This small town tucked on the far west coast of Vancouver Island is world-renowned for it’s unique beauty and atmosphere.   This November we planned a trip for our family to the Ocean Village Resort on Tofino’s Mackenzie beach. We had heard of these magical Beehive cabins with unobstructed views of the ocean. When we found out that both the cabins and beach were dog friendly we knew this was the place for us!

When we pulled up to our beachfront cabin, the kids could hardly contain their excitement. They raced inside the charming cabins and we discovered vaulted ceilings, 2 bedrooms, a full kitchen, large bathroom, fireplace and of course, gorgeous ocean views.  The thoughtful staff had even left out colouring books for the kids, treats for our pup Pepper and even his own dish and towel! After making ourselves at home we set out on the beach to explore. Mackenzie beach has areas safe enough for kids to play, waves big enough to surf, a SUP zone, rock pools to explore and an island you can reach at low tide. The entire beach is dog friendly so our pup spent the week racing up and down the beach playing in the waves and meeting new friends! He couldn’t have been happier!

Each morning after breakfast  we made our coffee, opened the doors and sat on the deck while our children played in the sand.  Later in the day we went skim boarding on the receding tide and beach combing in the rocks. I tried SUP surfing and the kids were even able to watch from the warm cabin with their hot chocolate.

In the evenings we sat by the fire on the beach and listened to the waves. Every part of our experience was magical and we hope to make a trip to Ocean Village Resort a yearly tradition in our family!
