A Winter Adventure

It was an easy choice to leave to the rain of our hometown valley and head for sunny blue skies of Kamloops, BC. Nestled between two picturesque rivers and surrounded by snow covered, sunkissed rocky outcrops, Kamloops felt like it was inviting us into a winter wonderland.

Our first stop of the trip was to the old fashioned, family centered and fun filled Harper Mountain. With over 1400 vertical feet of elevation for downhill skiing and Snow Town Tube park, the kids and I had our fun cut out for us for the entire day.

At Harper Mountain you can start with a lesson with their skilled, kid loving instructors or head straight up the chair lift for endless mountain views. Harper Mountain is a gem sparkling with old fashioned fun! Be sure to check out their log cabin style lodge ready with hot fresh cooked meals and a warm fire place to warm up your toes.

Harper Mountain’s Snow Town Tube Park provided endless hours of play time for the 5 of us. We couldn’t stop laughing as we raced down their runs, together, solo and just anyway we could send it!

Another outdoor adventure idea in Kamloops, BC is to make your way to Stake Lake Cross Country Ski Trails for a guided snowshoe tour with ACT Adventures. Our guide Michelle led us for a winter wonderland tour. Michelle fed the kids’ curious little minds history lessons and her indigenous knowledge of the plants and animals! When it was time for a rest, our bellies were fed with a delicious, healthy meal and a hot treat of apple cider on the trail.

Kamloops has a ton of indoor fun to offer as well! Here are some of the places we recommend:

Rock Climbing at Cliffside Climbing Gym: With their expert staff and routes for all skill levels, walk in the door and you'll be climbing in minutes at the Kamloops Cliffside Climbing Gym! And for extra help with belaying all the kids, they provided a friendly support staff for me. Indoor climbing can be fun for all families and all ages.

Jump your sillies out at Jump360 Tampoline Centre. This is going to be our go to stop anytime we are just driving through town too! Such a great space for the kids to run around for a couple hours!

Get creative at 4Cats Art Studio with Spikey Mike and Messy Jen. This family art class was the most requested we return to activity of our trip! The kids loved their welcoming, creative space and they had the coolest family portrait craft for us to create. I wish we had a 4Cats Art Studio in our hometown because this would be the best place for birthday parties, rainy days, a mom's night out or any day you're looking for something to get your kids' creative minds going!

Another must visit in Kamloops is the Secwepemc Museum and Heritage Park. Here we were asked not to take pictures but together we explored the history of Kamloop's Indigenous Peoples. Their displays incorporate the oral history and legends of the Secwepemc people, along with historical photographs, illustrations and artifacts.

We stayed at the HAMPTON INN BY HILTON KAMLOOPS during our trip!

The HAMPTON INN BY HILTON KAMLOOPS was the perfect home base for our family. Their rooms were newly renovated and so cozy! Every morning we woke up to their full continental breakfast with full gluten free and allergen friendly options.  And our favourite part was the gorgeous pool, hot tub and waterslide, where we spent many hours just relaxing and building fun memories together.

If you are staying in Kamloops with your family, here is a list of our favourite eats from our stay: (Including many gluten free and allergen friendly options!)

Noble Pig Brewhouse: The marriage between beautiful food and unique beer. Simply put, incredible craft, house made brews paired with meticulously created food with only the best ingredients. They went out of their way to ensure all of our allergies were accounted for and everyone had safe, delicious meals to eat!

Bold Pizzeria: Inspired by fire their pizza is made fresh before you and ready in minutes! We were so excited that their menu included gluten free and dairy free pizza too!

Brown’s Social House: With delicious food and a fun atmosphere, this is the place to soclize in Kamloops!

Match Eatery & Public House: is a modern public house offering a classic menu with a modern twist.

The Art We Are: We didn’t get to try this place but we heard it was a funky café with a variety of vegan, vegetarian and gluten-free options. Located right next to 4Cats it’s a perfect way place for lunch after your art lessons!

Hello Toast: Another local gem, we will be searching out next time! We hear this place is packed every day, which must mean the food is worth the stop! Our local Celiac friends say this place has great gluten free and allergen friendly options as well!

Hope you enjoy your family adventures in Kamloops like we did. Thanks for reading along!
